In an original world premiere production directed by new Sojourn Theatre Associate Artist Maureen Towey and written by Artistic Director Michael Rohd, Throwing Bones examines medicine, miracles, and mortality. Based on interviews with American doctors, South African traditional healers, and some of their incurable patients, the production uses childhood games and African songs to follow three healers and three patients as they struggle with health, illness, and death. With indefatigable optimism, the six characters hopscotch between South African villages and North Portland in search of cures.

Continuing Sojourn's tradition of site-specific theatre (using non-traditional performance spaces that relate to the play's content), Throwing Bones will be staged at Concordia University's Nursing Skills Lab in Northeast Portland. The limited engagement run previews March 27 and opens March 28 for three weeks of Thursday - Sunday evening performances through April 13.
