1999 Production History
Wish the Moon, Swallow the Whole Hot Sun (Virginia)
This movement theatre piece coalesced many of the company's founding members into a production unit. In Virginia, the show was created on an immense stage in a 6,000 seat military auditorium. It wove together three major strands of content - an adaptation of Luigi Pirandello's The man with a flower in his mouth, early yiddish folks tales, and depression era letters from artistic director Michael Rohd's great-uncle George Spezel as he crossed America on trains looking for work.. It began our journey exploring the relationship between history, social forces, and personal story. It began our relationship with composer Michael Kroll, who would later also score Passing Glances. And, it began our development of a dramaturgy of collage, and a dramaturgy of event.
